Camping is a great family vacation, but forgetting an essential piece of camping equipment can ruin your good time. Making a list for all the essentials is important to making sure you have everything you need. Categorizing your equipment will ensure your forget nothing. Your category’s can include shelter, food, clothing and fun stuff. Shelter includes tents, sleeping bags, and some type of repair kit, which can also include things needed to repair other category items. Make sure you have brought the right type of sleeping gear as nights can get much cooler than daytime temperatures and nothing ruins a trip quicker than someone getting sick.
You also want to make sure that your tent is waterproof and the right size for everyone going on the trip to have enough room for comfortable sleeping, another thing that will ruin a camping trip is not enough sleep and crabby campers. Camping is hard work and enough sleep is essential to having a good trip. Having the right equipment for preparing food is important as well. A good cook stove and pots and pans should be first on the list. Eating utensils, plates and cups are also needed. A good cooler or two is very important and should not be forgotten as some foods need to be kept cold. The food cooler also needs to be secured at night as raccoons are great forgers and their sense of smell is very good. A raccoon can open a cooler and get into non cooled foods and ruin your morning. Planning your meals ahead of time will ensure you don’t bring to much unnecessary food that needs to be kept away from the wildlife.
All personal care items and the proper clothing for the area you are camping at can be packed together in a small duffel bag for each person. Having everyone’s things in their own bag makes for less mess and greater ease finding stuff. Other important things to bring are flashlights, first aid kit, hatchets, and items needed for whatever activity you will engage in, such as fishing gear and hiking boots.
