The Psychic Burden of the Serial Emigrator

The desire to emigrate can stem from an interest in shedding one’s problems. It can be very tempting to simply ditch one’s universe of responsibility and suddenly be in some kind of oasis where beers are a quarter. Things are rarely this easy. If you emigrate, the place you emigrate to becomes the new center of your mundane concerns. It may take a while. A person could probably continue to hop hemispheres, assuming they had unlimited funds. Some people actually do attempt to stay in perpetual summer, through a process of progressive emigration to places where it happens to be summer.

Even if this sort of behavior does not take an overt toll on you, it may take a covert toll on your health sooner or later. To live in a state of ongoing emigration is likely to require constant air travel. This can make you space out. Merely changing time zones is strange enough.

However, a party is a party. If you are constantly touching down in places where it happens to be Carnaval, you may be able to drop right in to the prevailing feeling. Emigration without end is like enabling “god mode” in a video game. You had better have your head screwed on straight if you are going to dabble and cherry-pick entire cultures like that.
